- What is a DVR?
A Digital Video Recorder uses an internal hard drive instead of a VHS tape to record TV shows. Using your cable box remote control and the Interactive Program Guide schedule grid on your TV, you can easily highlight the show you want and press 'record'. It's that easy! You don't have to set start or end times or look for a blank tape.
You can also do all the things a normal video recorder can do, like fast forward, pause, rewind. In addition, you can schedule to record shows automatically and can also pause and rewind LIVE TV!
- How much does DVR cost?
We are happy to be able to offer DVR and the new, feature-packed Interactive Program Guide to Digital Cable and HDTV subscribers for a small extra monthly fee!
If you currently subscribe to Digital Cable, your additional DVR price is $7.95 per month. If you subscribe to both Digital Cable and HDTV Pak, your DVR price is only $4.95 per month.
Note: Digital Cable includes some HDTV channels at no extra charge. The HDTV Pak – extra premium HDTV channels – is additional. All DVR boxes after the first box are $6.95 for all subscribers. Subscribers without Digital Cable service will need to upgrade to Digital Cable's exciting features and hundreds of channels to enjoy DVR.
- How do I get DVR?

.
HDTV subscribers: the DVR cable box also gives you true HDTV. Current HDTV users should already have the necessary connection cables for your HDTV set. If not, we can supply HDTV cables for $29.95. You may hook up the new box yourself, or if you prefer, we offer free HDTV installation service in your home! (Installation does not include HDTV cables.)
- How much video will the DVR hold?
The capacity of the Digital Video Recorder - that is, the number of hours of video it can contain at a time – depends on what kind of channels you are recording (different signal types take more or less DVR space). Your DVR will record and store up to 25 hours of standard definition programming and up to 10 hours of High Definition programming. Because you will likely record a combination of different channels, the capacity will vary. The Interactive Program Guide has several features to notify you when you are nearing the limit of DVR capacity, and allows you options for removing old programs, etc.
- How far back can I review / reverse / replay live TV?
Up to two hours. There is a recording 'buffer' in the cable box that continuously and automatically records what you've been watching. This buffer enables scanning backward (doing 'replays') through a live show. Every time you change the channel, the buffer empties and begins recording the new channel. Also, you can only reverse (or 'rewind') a program back to the point at which you turned it on.
- Can I fast-forward through commercials?
Yes on recorded programs, but not on live TV. However, if you pause a live show for several minutes, you can then fast-forward through the time-delayed program until you catch up to live TV. For example, if a show starts at 8:00, you can pause it at 8:00, do something else for fifteen minutes, then begin watching the program at 8:15. You will then be able to fast forward through the first fifteen minutes of commercials, after which you'll be back to live TV.
- Can I schedule TV recording in advance for all channels?
Yes, with one exception. You can schedule recordings on basic cable (analog) channels, digital cable channels, and even HDTV channels. However, for technical reasons, Pay-Per-View programs must be recorded manually at the time of broadcast. That is, you have to be there to hit record for Pay-Per-View. For all other channels, you just select the program from the on-screen TV schedule guide.
- Can I record a show while watching another?
With the single tuner model, you cannot. while recording, you can only watch the program currently being recorded. However, you can watch a previously recorded program while recording a new program. With the dual tuner model, you can record a show while watching another channel on live TV, or record two different shows at the same time.
- Can I watch HDTV (High-Definition TV) channels even if I don't have an HDTV set?
Yes! The DVR cable box will automatically convert HDTV channels from wide-screen (16:9 ratio) to letterbox format on a regular (4:3 ratio) screen. Letterbox means you see the whole wide-screen picture with black bars at the top and bottom of the 4:3 screen. So you can see the picture, but of course only an HDTV set will give you true HDTV.
